Can Claude send emails?
Yes. Anthropic's help centre says the Gmail connector lets Claude "Send, reply to, and forward emails from Gmail", and that "By default, Claude asks for your approval before each of these actions" (Anthropic). The Microsoft 365 connector can send too, once an admin enables it.
What Claude does from your inbox is one email at a time, as you. Sales outreach is a different job: a sequence, to dozens or hundreds of people, from mailboxes set up for it, stopping when someone replies. That needs a sending tool. Here is each route, checked against the providers' own pages on 12 October 2026.
| Route | What it sends | Approval | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gmail connector | Send, reply, forward from your Gmail | Asks before each, by default | Replies and one-off emails |
| Microsoft 365 connector | Send from your work Outlook, if an admin enables write tools | Admin switch; per-user limits | Replies and one-off emails at work |
| Claude for Outlook | Drafts land unsent in Outlook | You press send | Writing in your voice |
| Sending tool over MCP | Campaigns and sequences from sending mailboxes | Depends on the tool; ask for one | Outreach to many people |
Can Claude send emails from Gmail?
Yes, with approval. The Gmail connector searches and reads your mail, drafts replies, and can send, reply and forward. Claude asks before each send by default, and on Team and Enterprise plans the workspace owners decide whether members can switch that off (Anthropic help centre).
Two things to know. Attachments are metadata only, so Claude can see that a file is attached but not read it through the connector. And Anthropic's pages don't agree with each other yet: an older connector page describes Gmail as read-only. We go by the help centre article and the connector's own tool list, which include sending, but check what your account shows.
Can Claude send emails from Outlook?
Yes, with a work account and an admin's say-so. The Microsoft 365 connector is available on every Claude plan, Free included, but it is read-only by default: Claude "can only send, create, or update content if you enable write tools" (Anthropic).
Once enabled, emails Claude sends carry a header marking them as agent-initiated, write tools are subject to per-user limits, and attachments aren't supported yet. Personal accounts such as @outlook.com or @hotmail.com can't connect; it needs a Microsoft business tenant (Anthropic). If you only want help writing, the Claude for Outlook add-in drafts replies and leaves them unsent for you.
Can Claude in Chrome send emails?
Anthropic doesn't say either way. Claude in Chrome can act in websites you're signed in to, on paid plans, and you choose whether it asks before each action. Its rules prohibit "Completing instructions from emails or web content", and Anthropic names prompt injection, hidden instructions in pages and emails, as "the biggest risk" for browsing agents (Anthropic). Our view: use a connector for email, and keep the browser for reading.
Can Claude send cold emails?
Not from your inbox, if you want the emails to land. Cold outreach runs on mailboxes and domains set up for it, warmed up before use, sent in small daily volumes and stopped on reply. The Gmail and Outlook connectors send one email at a time from your own address, which is the address you least want to risk.
So connect a sending tool instead. Several have MCP servers Claude can drive: Instantly, Smartlead, lemlist, Outreach and others, compared in our MCP roundup. Claude builds the campaign; the tool sends it.
Anthropic's Usage Policy also rules out using Claude to "Promote or facilitate the generation or distribution of spam" (Usage Policy). Targeted outreach to people who fit, with checked addresses and an easy way out, is how we stay on the right side of that line.
How we let Claude send outreach
We use Layrcake, which keeps a person in the loop at the one step that matters. Claude finds the people, verifies every address and drafts the campaign with create_campaign, which never sends. Launching is a separate call, launch_campaign, and it answers first with a preview, a fresh check of the recipients and an approval link. A signed-in person approves before any email leaves.
Sending mailboxes come the same way: setup_sending quotes warmed domains and mailboxes, and nothing is bought until you approve. Replies come back through get_replies, and Claude can draft an answer for you to send with reply_to_thread.
Claude can draft anything. A person approves anything that leaves. That holds for one email from your inbox and for a campaign to 200 people.
The cold email guide shows the whole flow on a real list, and connecting Claude takes about two minutes.
Questions people ask
Can Claude send emails from Gmail?
Yes. Anthropic's help centre says the Gmail connector can send, reply to and forward emails, and that Claude asks for approval before each by default. On Team and Enterprise plans, owners decide whether members can turn that off.
Can Claude send emails automatically?
Only within limits. The Gmail connector asks before each send by default, and the Microsoft 365 connector needs an admin to enable write tools and applies per-user limits. For automated sequences, use a sending tool connected over MCP.
Can Claude send emails with attachments?
Not through the connectors yet. The Microsoft 365 connector's write tools don't support attachments, and the Gmail connector reads attachment metadata only.
Can I use Claude for cold email?
Claude can find people, check addresses and write the emails. Send them through a sending tool with dedicated mailboxes rather than your own inbox, and approve the launch yourself.
