What does Claude need for go-to-market work?
Claude needs infrastructure underneath it: live data, a way to send, a way to hear back, a record to write to, and rules about what it may do alone. Claude supplies the reasoning and the writing. Every layer below it is a tool it calls over MCP (Model Context Protocol), Anthropic's standard for connecting assistants to other systems.
| Layer | What it does | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Data | Find companies and people, get work emails, verify them, spot buying signals, research accounts | Layrcake, Apollo, ZoomInfo, Crustdata, Clay, FullEnrich |
| Sending | Mailboxes and domains set up for outreach; campaigns and sequences | Layrcake, Instantly, Smartlead, lemlist, Outreach |
| Replies | Read replies, classify them, draft answers | Layrcake, your sending tool, Gmail or Outlook connector |
| CRM | The system of record for accounts, contacts and deals | HubSpot, Salesforce, Attio |
| Guardrails | Budgets per request, approval before anything sends or spends, a log of every call | Tool-side approvals, Claude Code permission rules |
Every product named has an official MCP server or Claude connector, per its own docs on 12 October 2026.
The data layer: what Claude can't know on its own
Claude's knowledge stops at a training cutoff, and the facts prospecting needs change weekly: who just joined, who is hiring, whose email bounces. So the data layer does most of the work in any run. In ours, a 20-person list used five data steps (search, email lookup, verification, recent activity, then the draft), and the email lookups were 80 of the 145 credits.
What to look for: coverage of the whole job, so Claude isn't stitching tools together; per-call prices that Claude can check against a budget; and free misses, so a lookup that finds nothing costs nothing. Verification matters most. In our runs, a second check flagged 8 of the 24 addresses a finder returned as catch-all, invalid or unknown.
The sending layer: keep outreach off your own inbox
Claude can send from your inbox through the Gmail or Microsoft 365 connector, one email at a time and with approval (more on that here). Outreach at volume belongs on separate domains and mailboxes, warmed up and sending small daily volumes, so your main domain's reputation never carries the risk.
That layer needs the basics the mailbox providers publish: authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), a low spam complaint rate and one-click unsubscribe. The cold email guide lays out Gmail's, Yahoo's and Outlook's rules side by side.
Replies and the CRM: closing the loop
A stack that sends but can't hear back is half a stack. Claude should be able to read replies, sort the interested ones from the out-of-office ones, and draft an answer for you to approve. In Layrcake that is get_replies and reply_to_thread, and the same approval rule applies to replies as to campaigns.
Keep your CRM's own connector for the record. HubSpot, Salesforce and Attio each run an official MCP server, and they own the permissions and the history. Everything else in the stack should feed the CRM, not replace it.
Guardrails: budgets and approvals
Two rules make Claude safe to run on real prospects. First, every request carries a credit budget, and Claude checks each call's cost before it makes it. Second, a person approves anything that sends email or spends money.
Put the second rule in two places. In the tools, by choosing ones that return a preview and an approval link before launching. Layrcake's launch_campaign and setup_sending work that way. And in Claude Code, with permission rules that make those tools ask first. The Claude Code setup guide has the settings file.
Claude drafts anything. A person approves anything that leaves.
These guardrails, and eight more, are written up as an open standard any agent can be checked against: the Agent Outbound Standard.
Which go-to-market stack should you start with?
Three setups cover most teams. Start with the smallest one that does your job; every extra connection gives Claude more tools to choose between.
| Team | Stack | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Founder or solo seller | Claude + one data-and-outreach connection | One connection, one balance, from research to approved send |
| Agency running clients | Claude Code + one data-and-outreach connection + a shared repo of skills | Same method for every client; skills and rules live in git |
| RevOps team at volume | Claude + Clay or a data provider + your sending tool + your CRM's connector | Repeatable workflows on thousands of rows, synced to the CRM |
Layrcake is built as the single connection for the first two: data, verification, signals, social posts, campaigns and replies behind one MCP server and one prepaid balance. It matters on Claude's Free plan too, which allows one custom connector (Anthropic). For the third setup, see Claude vs Clay and the MCP servers roundup.
What does the stack cost to run?
With pay-per-call data, a run costs what it finds. Our logged runs with Claude and Layrcake: 145 credits ($1.45) for 20 leads taken to 15 ready-to-send drafts, 78.75 credits for 8 people with checked emails and 3 researched openers, 31 credits for a verified sales leader at five named accounts. Prices as on the run days; see current prices. Claude itself is your Claude plan, and Claude Code comes with the paid ones.

Questions people ask
What tools does Claude need for sales prospecting?
A data layer for finding people and companies, getting and verifying work emails, and researching accounts; a sending layer with dedicated mailboxes; a way to read replies; your CRM's connector; and approval steps for anything that sends or spends.
Can Claude replace a sales tech stack?
Claude replaces much of the manual work between tools, not the tools. It still needs live data, sending infrastructure and a CRM, which it reaches through MCP connectors.
How many MCP connectors should a sales team connect to Claude?
As few as cover the job. One data-and-outreach connection plus the CRM's own connector covers most teams. Overlapping tools make Claude's choices worse, and Claude's Free plan allows one custom connector.
Is it safe to let Claude send sales emails?
With guardrails. Give every request a credit budget, use tools that return a preview and approval link before launching, and make send and spend tools ask first in Claude Code.
